XPERO wins the first prize as the best scientific demonstration at the European FET-09 Conference in Prague
XPERO has won first prize at the European Conference on Future and Emerging Technologies (FET-09) in Prague with its demo of an autonomously experimenting robot. The demo showed the XPERO robot experimenting on its own with boxes and balls, thereby acquiring conceptual knowledge about its surroundings. These concepts include models about the robot's environment, enabling it to draw conclusions like the one that some of the boxes can be moved around, while others cannot ("Movability"), or that it can put a ball on top of a box, but cannot stack a box on top of a ball ("Stability").
With the help of a new method of learning that has been developed within the project, the robot can acquire new knowledge and thereby develop new skills.
The experimenting robot proved to be magnet for conference participants and the members of the press alike.
